Quoting limited to 3 levels deep .........I thought Sonny would be in Salem because of CHABBY wedding....now I am not sure. Maybe to sell TBD to his parents I guess....I would want him to run Titan!
I think he had a much more distinct personality when he showed up. Then they decided to start up the "caretaker"-ish friendship and eventual relationship between he and Will, and while I obviously still enjoyed him, I think most of what made Sonny "Sonny" flew out the window in favor of propping Will. I think that's why I've remained interested yet frustrated for those several years. To me, there's a good character under there somewhere, but he gave nearly his whole self up to his relationship, only to have it broken. I liked that Paul reminded him of his other life, even if part of it was painful (Paul being closeted). While I basically hate (with a passion) that he left Ari because I felt that was out of character even despite his inherent wanderlust, in some ways it makes sense that as as soon as he's away from Will, even when he originally meant it to be temporarily, Sonny kind of reverts back to wanting to go abroad and do big things. I don't think that was done on purpose, mind you. They just needed to write Sonny out without killing him. But still.
Early Sonny was my favorite Sonny- his joking around with Chad, his relationship with Victor, flirt master Brian. And he used to smile all the time. Making him Will's pseudo psychiatrist and lovesick crusher was the worst thing they did- it completely dismantled him. There used to be something authentically "Sonny" about him- the Sonny who hung out at "The Spot" with his friends (who we never saw again) and flirted with guys, who stood up to T and anyone else who bullied him for his sexuality, who wore shirts other than plaid shirts :drunk: . I wish Wilson had just remained friends at the most. I didn't mind them originally. I thought they were super adorable. The coffeehouse tug-of-war had me floating. But I didn't know then that they were going to make him permanently Will's "pseudo psychiatrist" (as you expertly put it). Also, that was when I still enjoyed Will, so...
It's probably just my bias saying this, but in retrospect, it just makes Sonny seem like some kind of sacrificial lamb at the altar-that-is-Will.

And I agree that Sonny was sacrificed in favor of Will. When Paul arrived, Sonny should have been at the center of the story as he was the one that both men were in love with. Instead, he was in the forefront for about a month and then it became all about Will again. Sonny taking responsibility for Will cheating on him was pretty much the straw for me.

this is not the scene where Paul arrives, was it supposed to be? My records indicate he arrives in the next scene, not this one.

ok...I was like, no Paul? I know Paul came. There was a question as to when he first arrived in this episode. Some thought he arrived in this scene (during the time lapse with the clock), others thought he arrived in the next scene.

The clip was to show that Paul was called after Brady was out of surgery. I don't think so...man if I had the eppy full...I remember my gal...they were all standing around Theresa seemed unconnected to everyone...Paul walks in... but it seems to me that once they found out that Brady was in a room...not to long after that...Theresa leaves and goes to be with Brady...but Theresa is there when Paul comes in and their all worried.
I read the transcripts...

don't think so...man if I had the eppy full I have every episode since November 1983, so if there's ever a question about as to what happened on-screen, I can always check. That's why I posted the scene above, to confirm that Paul was not in that scene.
